It's been a couple of years since Michael Strahan said goodbye to Kelly Ripa and the "Live" show. Even after all this time, the former NFL star doesn't look back with any regrets about his decision to leave. That's right, folks, Michael is at peace with the choice he made, and he's embracing the next chapter in his life with open arms.
In a candid conversation with Graham Besinger back in March 2018, Michael opened up about his departure. "There’s nothing I would have done differently," he said. "I handled it as professionally as you can. From day one to the last day I left, I’ve been nothing but a professional. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to grow and evolve. Not everyone gets that chance—to step out of their comfort zone and explore new creative avenues. And that’s exactly what I did."

Back in April 2016, Michael dropped the bombshell that he’d be leaving the show to join "Good Morning America." Now, here's the kicker: Kelly only found out about his decision moments before he went public with it. Naturally, she wasn’t thrilled and decided to take a few days off the show to process everything. Can you blame her?
During his time on "Live! With Kelly and Michael," Michael described his experience as life-changing. "My time with Live! With Kelly and Michael has been transformative, and my departure will be bittersweet," he admitted at the time. "Kelly Ripa has been an incredible partner, and I am so grateful to her and the entire team. I’m extremely thankful for the unwavering support from all of our fans." It was eventually decided that Michael would leave earlier than expected, and his final day was on May 13, 2016.
Michael’s Perspective on Moving Forward
Michael doesn’t shy away from explaining why he left the show. "A lot of people think, 'Why would he leave?' But let me tell you something—I don’t want to do the same thing forever! Absolutely not! Some folks get too comfortable, and it drives me crazy when someone says, 'You’ve got a good job, just stick with it.' That kind of mindset doesn’t sit well with me," Michael told Graham.
Life After Michael: Kelly’s Search for a New Co-Host
After a year of hosting the show with various guest hosts, Kelly welcomed Ryan Seacrest as her permanent co-host to replace Michael in May 2017. However, according to "Life & Style," Kelly might be rethinking her decision. Reports suggest she's now considering bringing Jerry O’Connell aboard instead.
"This is the last thing Kelly ever imagined would happen," a source revealed to the news outlet. "That’s why she’s revisiting talks with Jerry and pondering a plan to replace Ryan with him. It was a close call between Jerry and Ryan before Ryan was ultimately chosen. In hindsight, Jerry could have been the perfect fit. Kelly and the ABC execs are regretting their decision."
Interestingly, Kelly believes she can persuade Ryan to step aside. "She thinks she can convince him," the insider added, "that his heart and soul aren’t fully invested in the role and that stepping down would be the best move—for both him and the show." It seems like the show just can't catch a break, can it?
