Shania Twain's Triumphant Comeback: A Journey Through Heartbreak, Illness, and Resilience

Hey there, let’s dive right in. The year 2017 was all about one thing for Shania Twain: a major career resurgence after a messy divorce and a battle with illness. The legendary country singer just released her first album in 15 years, titled Now. And honestly, what better time than now for her to pick up where she left off with her music and that unforgettable voice?

Shania has been candid about the challenges of returning to the spotlight after such a long break. "There’s so much to consider when you come back to something you haven’t done in a long time," the 51-year-old recently admitted. But she’s not one to back down easily. "I’m not about to give up now!" she added firmly. Despite the difficulties, she’s been overwhelmed by the love and support from her fans. "I’m really feeling the love. I had no idea how much I was appreciated," she revealed.

The Heartbreak That Shaped Her Journey

Shania’s hiatus wasn’t just about taking a break. It was shaped by a painful breakup and an unfortunate illness. She was married to her musical partner, Robert "Mutt" Lange, from 1993 until 2010. Together, they worked on three incredible albums from 1995 to 2002. But their marriage ended when she discovered Mutt was having an affair with her assistant, Marie-Anne Thiébaud. "It’s terrifying to realize just how vulnerable you can be," the singer, who shares a son named Eja, now 15, with Mutt, admitted. "I truly believed that marriage was forever."

But life has a way of surprising us. In 2011, Shania married Marie-Anne’s estranged husband, Frederic Thiebaud, and they’ve been happily together ever since. Sometimes, the twists and turns of life lead us to unexpected blessings.

Overcoming Adversity: Shania's Battle With Dysphonia

As if heartbreak wasn’t enough, Shania also faced a serious vocal challenge. She battled stress-related dysphonia, a vocal cord disorder that left her unable to sing for several years. "I lost my voice for a while, and it felt like I’d never make another album. It was absolutely devastating," she confessed. But Shania is nothing if not resilient. Her new single, Life’s About to Get Good, captures her renewed spirit and determination. In her own words from the end of her new CD, "I felt like I had climbed this huge mountain and was standing at the top, looking God in the eye, and saying, ‘I’m here! What’s next?’"
