The Custody Battle: A Difficult Chapter in Nicole's Life
Life hasn’t always been easy for Nicole, especially when it comes to her custody battle with Shane Maguire. Just six months after Harper’s birth, Shane filed for joint custody, and the legal battles have been ongoing ever since. Nicole tried to keep some aspects of the case private by asking the court to seal the records, but her request was denied. She also requested that Shane not have overnight visits with Harper until he was at least two years old, but the judge didn’t agree with her. Nicole expressed her frustration, saying, “I never realized a nursing baby could be separated from their mother. If someone took puppies from their mom at two weeks, people would be outraged.” Despite the challenges, Nicole remains focused on being strong for her children. She admitted in late 2017 that she was in the process of weaning Harper off breastfeeding because of the custody dispute. For the past few years, Nicole has been living in a beautifully renovated 1904 home in Detroit. However, things took an unexpected turn when Shane accused her of moving to California to keep him from seeing Harper. According to The Blast, Shane showed up at Nicole’s Detroit home to pick up Harper for a visit, but when he texted her to say he was there, Nicole claimed she no longer lived in Michigan. Shane called this a “blatant lie” and accused Nicole of scheming to move to California without telling him. Shane lives in Minnesota and had even planned to move to Michigan to be closer to Harper. He felt blindsided when he discovered Nicole’s plans to relocate. In an email to his lawyer, Shane wrote, “Now I sit here alone in Michigan where Nicole chose to run the day before Harper’s due date, gave birth to him, and where she has remained almost three years. She argued many times that I should not make Harper travel and wrote as much on her social media groups. So, I moved my life to accommodate and make it easier for Harper.” Shane added, “Now my son is somewhere in California instead of here with me. This is just not healthy for a three-year-old! Nor for me for that matter. It’s breaking my heart and I can’t take much more of it!”
