Take Inspiration on Being a Great Parent From Drew Barrymore - I Single Mom

It’s been two years since Drew Barrymore parted ways with her husband, Will Kopelman, and the actress is still navigating the complexities of being a single parent. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Drew opened up about the challenges and triumphs of raising her daughters while juggling her career and personal life. Her candid words have resonated with fans who admire her strength and resilience.

“As I navigate these challenges as both a woman and a mother, I’m incredibly fortunate to know that my daughter Olive, who's 5, is safe, happy, and deeply loved,” Drew wrote in her post. She expressed gratitude toward her ex-husband, Will Kopelman, for being an amazing father to their children. “Will has always been the best dad, offering unwavering support and enabling me to pursue my passions and responsibilities. I realize not everyone is as lucky as I am in this regard, and I never take it for granted. Growing up, I didn’t have the support system many people do, which makes the one I have now even more precious.” Drew also shared that she and Will are parents to another daughter, who is three years old.

Continued from last post… My face time would come out of nowhere into her world, and it would be so disruptive. Neither of us felt good after. But she’s young, and that will change when she gets older. And I am old school. So I figured globes and postcards and calendars are what works for us for now. What works for you? And to all working moms, I salute your valiant efforts to love and raise good kids! I’m trying my very best. And it’s not easy. But worth every moment. And when you find something that does work for you and your family, big or small… Celebrate. Because the next obstacle is on its way! And then we reinvent again! That’s what moms do! I also would like to say that I am so lucky for her father. Because as I go through these struggles as a woman and a mother, I also have the fortune of knowing she is safe and happy and loved. Playing and continues her normal stable amazing life with her amazing dad. And not all working moms have that luxury. So I say to Will Kopelman thank you for always being the best dad and supporting and enabling me to do what I need and want to do. I know that’s not everyone’s situation. And I never take it for granted. I never had family growing up. And that’s also a support system I cherish every day of my life. I love my family and everyone in it. Because they form these little girls too. And man, did I pick well! I am always so calm and content when my girls are with their family. I see as time with them, and not about that I am not there. Which is also good planning for when a mom is trying to make it out there in the world. For now, I look at this pic of Olive and her dad watching an old roadrunner cartoon. And this also makes me so happy and knocks out my guilt with a punch. I’ll be home soon and be laughing right along side you guys!

But it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for Drew. The star of "50 First Dates" revealed that, at first, she was in a "very dark and fearful place" following her separation from Will. “I wasn’t actively seeking work. In fact, I had taken a break from acting for several years because I wanted to focus on raising my daughters,” she explained. “But life took an unexpected turn, and I found myself going through a difficult separation. It was a challenging time, and I wasn’t sure how to move forward.”

Drew continued, “I was in such a dark place emotionally, but then this script came along, and initially, I thought, 'No way, this isn’t the right time.' Ironically, it turned out to be one of the best things that could have happened to me. Sometimes, the moments that seem like the worst timing or the worst idea can end up being exactly what you need. They can shift your perspective, give you a new focus, and empower you to break free from negative patterns.”

Now 43, Drew Barrymore has come a long way since her days as a child star in "E.T." Battling addiction as a teenager, she’s grown into a strong, confident woman who’s learned to cherish every moment with her family. “I love my family and everyone in it because they help shape my daughters,” she said. “Having that support system is something I treasure every single day of my life.”

In a world where life can feel overwhelming, Drew Barrymore’s story serves as a reminder that even the toughest times can lead to growth. After her split from Will Kopelman, Drew admitted she was initially lost and unsure of how to move forward. But through the challenges, she discovered a renewed sense of purpose and strength. “It wasn’t easy, but I learned to lean on the people who truly matter—my kids, my family, and my friends,” she reflected.

Drew also emphasized the importance of self-care and finding joy in the little things. “Sometimes, it’s the small victories that make the biggest difference. Whether it’s watching my daughters laugh with their dad or finding a new hobby that brings me peace, it’s all about creating balance in life.”

The Role of Family in Drew’s Life

For Drew, family has always been at the heart of her journey. Growing up as a child star, she didn’t have the traditional support system many people take for granted. Now, as a mother, she’s built a close-knit family dynamic that nurtures her daughters and gives her peace of mind. “When my girls are with their dad or extended family, I feel calm and content because I know they’re in good hands. It’s not about being physically present every moment—it’s about knowing they’re loved and supported.”

    Lessons Learned Along the Way

Through her experiences, Drew has learned valuable lessons about resilience, gratitude, and the power of reinvention. “Life throws curveballs, but how we respond to them defines who we are. Whether it’s taking on a new role, embracing a fresh challenge, or simply finding joy in the everyday moments, it’s all part of the journey.”

As Drew continues to navigate her life as a single mom and working actress, she’s proof that even in the face of adversity, there’s always room for growth, love, and happiness.
